Families Matter Benefit and Celebration

The 14th Annual Families Matter Benefit and Celebration, Friends of the Family's signature fundraising event, will be held on FRIDAY, APRIL 30TH, 2010 AT THE BEVERLY HILLS HOTEL. The event, which always earns rave reviews for providing a joyful, warm and inspiring evening will feature a dinner gala, silent and live auctions, entertainment, and the presentation of the 2010 leadership awards.

At this year’s event the 2010 Founders Award will be presented to Dr. Bill Dorfman for his tireless commitment to causes that benefit children and families here in Los Angeles and around the world. We hope you will join us to pay tribute to his efforts and his support for the work of Friends of the Family. Click here to read more about Dr. Dorfman's work and activism.

Summer Fundraiser

2010 will herald the arrival of Friends of the Family's first family-focused fundraiser tentatively scheduled for late summer/early fall. Watch for announcements of a very special day at the shore planned for the whole family with games, art, a gourmet picnic and maybe even polo ponies.

Festival of Readers

Friends of the Family proudly presents the Festival of Readers, an annual literacy fair that celebrates the transformative power of reading and education. The 2009 Festival was held at Maclay Middle School on November 7, 2009. More than 800 parents and children took part in musical, performance, dance, and educational activities. The We Read, We Rock Award was presented to 1st Place winner, 9 year old Gricelli Paramo from Montague Charter Academy, based on the essay she submitted about the powerful impact reading has had on her school success and on her family. Thanks to partner organizations First 5 LA, T.H.R.I.V.E. Family Development, Los Angeles Education Partnership, Child Care Resource Center, Project SAFE-The Help Group, Broadous Ready for School, Maclay Middle School, and notable folk and cultural performer Jose Luis Orozco for helping to make this a memorable community event.
