Steve Harvey provided his masterful comedic touch as host and Jay Leno brought down the house as he stepped in to present the “Family Friend of the Year Award” to Cedric the Entertainer in honor of his philanthropic work with children and families. The “Calling All Kids” Chorus was joined by surprise guests, the High Praise Gospel Choir, for a rousing rendition of “This Little Light of Mine” which ended with a standing ovation from the admiring audience.

Gabrielle Union with Emesto & Andrew Hidalgo

Actress Gabrielle Union imparted the inspiring stories of the Alvarado-Fabian and Hidalgo families, whose lives have been transformed by Friends of the Family’s renowned services, as she presented them each with a Family of the Year Award. A highlight of the evening was the launch of a new education and mentoring program that will provide $1,000 scholarships to worthy families pursuing their dreams. Actor Dan Cortese introduced the Starfish Scholarship Fund and 33 generous guests were inspired to sponsor scholarships on the spot.

Melissa Joan Hart and Anne Palmer were Co-Chairs of the event which raised more than $470,000 for the many programs that Friends of the Family provides to families in need.
